Recognise and sketch the shapes of graphs of functions
There are a number of more ‘advanced’ graphs whose shape you should be able to instantly recognise and might be able to sketch from memory, meaning you should be able to immediately describe the graph as a ‘parabola’, ‘hyperbola’, 1/x or one of the trigonometric functions. These special graphs include:
You might be asked to identify or sketch the graph of: Y = x Linear
You might be asked to identify or sketch the graph of: Y = x^{2} Parabola
You might be asked to identify or sketch the graph of: Y = x^{3} Hyperbola
You might be asked to identify or sketch the graph of: Y = Sin x Trigonometric – Sine Graph
You might be asked to identify or sketch the graph of: Y = Cos x Trigonometric – Cosine Graph
You might be asked to identify or sketch the graph of: Y = Tan x Trigonometric – Tangent Graph
