A quadratic function, or quadratic equation, is one where the highest power of x is x2, e.g.

y = 2x2 + 5x – 4

A cubic function, or cubic equation, is one where the highest power of x is x3, e.g.

y = x3 - 2x2 + 5x – 4

You can be expected to plot graphs for these functions, given a table of values to complete.

When plotting graphs it is just a case of joining the dots, but remember they are not straight lines between the dots!

Try to get an idea of the shape of the whole curve through the set of points you have plotted.

If you are struggling, add in your own x and y values to complete the curve a bit more.
